I spent a few day camping, fishing, and hiking at the Lake Durant State Park.
This is a nice campground if you don’t need all the amenities of home when camping. The sites do not have hookups, so it’s really camping.
We made our reservations somewhat last minute, so we didn’t get a prime site, but there are some really nice waterfront sites. I imagine you need to book early to get one though.
The weather forecast called for rain for most of our trip, to the point we talked about canceling, but we decided to risk it.
Luckily most of the rain came in the night, leaving some very nice daytime weather.
The lake is a shallow man made lake. It’s quite weed choked, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you’re a bass fisherman.
I left the electric motor for the kayak home this trip, leaving the movement to the peddles and paddles. I need the exercise! With the weeds as they were it was probably for the best.
The bass decided to cooperate this trip. Some old school with unweighted swimming tail worms and jitterbugs in the evening proved to once again, work well.
The boat launch is at the campsite. It’s a pretty decent boat launch but with the weeds as they are I wouldn’t want a full size boat. Even the pivot drive on the Nucanoe proved to be a challenge at times, but for a canoe or kayak it’s perfect. I didn’t get past the half way point of the lake so maybe the other end of the lake is better (by better I mean less weeds).
I’ll definitely be planning another fishing adventure here again.
