Making a Bow String Jig
Yesterday I stated making some needed bow strings. I made this jig. It’s small and made from scraps so it the cost was nothing.
This post is basically to give an idea of the jog. Hopefully spark some inspirations.
At first I made the post to short. It didn’t work well. If you make one remember the pins need to be long enough you can conveniently wrap the serving and not flip the string off the the top.
Also make the pins at least 12″ apart. I think 14″ would even be better.
I followed this video for making it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZCz-wGBvRM&t=287s
I clamp them the right distance apart on the bench .
First step is to tie a loop and slide it over the inside post.
Then wrap it around the outside post
Now wrap the appropriate number of wraps around the whole thing.
Mark out 3 3/4″
Start your wrap by sliding the end through the strands with the tail to the right.
Now wrap for 3 3/4″. At 3 3/4″ make a large loop and wrap 3 wraps inside
Pull the string to the left and wrap the loop over it until all the 3 loop wraps are gone.
Pull the string to form the knot
Turn the jig so you can continue wrapping, but now you’ll be forming the loop
Wrap about 6″ down the string (longer if more string will make contact with the bow.)
Now reverse the sting and make the loop on the other end the same way.
Wrap the serving for the arrow nock right on the bow
